I'm so excited to have Peter join the Rooted Life Adventures team as a Program Instructor. Peter's work experience spans in science and outdoor education as well as reforestation and sustainability. This makes him the perfect fit for our New Zealand programs!

Our new Program Instructor
Peter is originally from Southern California and has spent the past five years in New Zealand, he now calls Queenstown home! Peter went to the University of Redlands in California. He graduated with a B.S in environmental science and a minor in spatial analysis.
Post education, Peter worked as an Educator at an outdoor science school in the San Bernardino mountains of California. In the summers, Peter would go to Colorado to be a raft guide on the Arkansas river. He also spent a lot of time exploring the vast wilderness of the western US. It was during this period that Peter developed a passion for the outdoors. He recognised the beauty it could bring to other people's lives.
Growing up near the coast in California, Peter took up surfing at a young age. It brought him joy and peacefulness. He began rock climbing whilst at university and frequented the Joshua Tree National Park. 'Since the very first day climbing, I was absolutely hooked.' Climbing has taken Peter to so many breathtaking places around the world, the sport never ceases to amaze him.
Moving to New Zealand
After two years of working, Peter decided to move to New Zealand, to gain a new perspective on the world. Peter wanted to explore the rugged coastlines and vast mountain ranges of New Zealand. He fell in love with the country, the people, and 'the astounding natural environment'. Peter travelled throughout the country, eventually finding a home in Queenstown, a ski town located deep in the Southern Alps.
Since arriving Peter has worked in landscaping and has become a qualified horticulturist. Peter has joined the NZ reforestation movement, planting thousands of native plants around the Whakatipu basin. When he's not working, he's been exploring Fiordland National Park, discovering the vast valleys and peaks of the Darran Mountains. He's put up some first ascents in the ranges. Fiordland National Park has become Peter's favourite place, he feels inspired by the climbs and adventures he has experienced. Peter has also been involved with several volunteer organizations: Queenstown Climbing Club, the Department Of Conservation and NZ Alpine Club.
Five years has passed since Peter stepped off the plane onto NZ soil. He's not planning on leaving anytime soon!

We're thrilled to have Peter join us as a Program Instructor for our upcoming fall program. We know he will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to the group. Welcome, Peter!
